The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is located on the outskirts of the city of Enugu in Nigeria. The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is known as the “Mothers’ Shrine.” It serves as a destination for pilgrimage, retreat, prayer, and worship.
Location: The National Shrine is situated on the outskirts of Enugu city, Nigeria. It is positioned on a plateau with a panoramic view and is bordered by two rivers, offering a serene and natural environment. The shrine covers an ample space of 78 hectares.
Mission: The shrine’s mission is to provide joyous and faith-filled Eucharistic celebrations, family-friendly activities, pilgrimages, and retreats to spiritually enlighten its visitors. It honours the Blessed Virgin Mary and is open to people of all denominations, not just Catholics.
History: In 2008, the then Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Gbuji, generously donated a piece of land for the National Shrine to be dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This land is considered a gift from the Virgin Mother of God to the Church of Christ in Nigeria.
Visitors to the National Shrine can expect a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere in a natural setting. It serves as a place for religious and spiritual renewal for both the local community and visitors from beyond Nigeria.
